Car rental in Namibia

1. Keep handbags and valuables out of sight, even if you are only leaving the vehicle for a few minutes.
2. Our Namibia rentals include excess-free cover, provided the rental conditions are followed. Damage caused by negligence, misuse or a breach of the rental agreement may still be charged. To date, no renter booking through us has been charged for vehicle damage.
3. The vehicle should be returned with a full tank of fuel. We recommend refuelling close to the return location, as even a small amount of missing fuel may be charged by the rental company.
4. When turning right, give way to oncoming traffic unless you have a dedicated green turning arrow.
5. In Namibia, you drive on the left-hand side of the road. A simple reminder is “left close, right far”. When turning left, enter the closest lane. When turning right, enter the lane farther away.
6. Do not drive too close to the left edge of the road. Travellers unfamiliar with driving on the left can easily misjudge the distance between the vehicle and roadside obstacles.
7. Much of Namibia is explored on gravel roads. Allow more time than the distance may suggest and keep your speed down. Namibia Tourism recommends not exceeding 80 km/h on gravel roads.
8. Check your tyres before long gravel sections. Tyre pressure can vary according to the vehicle, load and road conditions, so follow the rental company’s recommended pressure rather than using a generic setting.

1. Book accommodation early, particularly around Etosha, Sossusvlei and during peak travel periods. Ask us about available hotel and lodge rates.
2. South African rand can be used in Namibia and has the same value as the Namibia dollar.
3. Distances in Namibia can be much longer than they appear on a map, particularly once you reach gravel roads. Leave enough time between destinations and avoid overloading your itinerary.
4. For longer itineraries, it can sometimes make sense to return the vehicle in another destination and fly back. Ask us to compare the one-way fee with the cost of driving the full route again.
5. Keep an eye on your fuel level when travelling through remote areas. Towns and fuel stops can be far apart, so it is worth filling up when you have the opportunity.

1. One additional driver is included in our Namibia car rental rates, provided the driver is registered on the rental agreement and meets the rental requirements.
2. Driver age and licence requirements can vary according to the vehicle group and supplier. Any applicable young-driver or new-driver charge will be confirmed before booking.
3. A trailer may be available with selected vehicle groups. Please check with us before booking, as not every vehicle is suitable for towing.
4. Hotel delivery or collection may be available at an additional cost, depending on the location and rental branch.
5. Planning to take the vehicle into another country? Cross-border travel must be arranged in advance. The applicable fee must be paid and a letter of authority obtained from the rental company before crossing the border. Cross-border restrictions vary by destination and supplier.
6. Traffic fines and related administration fees are not included and will be charged separately if incurred during the rental.
7. The main driver must have a credit card in their own name with sufficient available credit for the required deposit. We recommend travelling with a second credit card as a backup.
8. Bring your valid driver’s licence when collecting the vehicle. If your licence is not clearly readable in English, an international driving permit or English translation may be required. Check with us before travelling if you are unsure.
9. Standard vehicle cleaning is included, but exceptional cleaning may be charged separately if the vehicle is returned excessively dirty, stained or with rubbish requiring additional cleaning.
