Keep handbags and valuables out of sight, even if you’re only leaving the car for a few minutes.
Opt for full coverage insurance. Some companies offer “non-participation” insurance, but if no other vehicle is involved in an accident, they may charge for damages under a negligence clause. With us, this does not apply, and to date, none of our clients have been charged for damage.
Fuel prices in South Africa are regulated. If you don’t refuel before returning the car, the rental company will fill it for approximately 45 rand plus the cost of the fuel. If you refuel, do so at the airport, as even missing two liters could result in a charge.
Right turns do not have the right of way. You must yield to oncoming traffic.
Driving in South Africa is on the left. A helpful trick to remember: “Left close, right far” — turn left into the nearest lane and right into the far lane.
Avoid sticking too close to the left. Most damage to rental cars occurs to the left mirror or bumper due to scraping or collisions.
Toll gates may not accept international credit cards. It’s advisable to carry cash.
Speeding fines are common in areas like Knysna, Wilderness, Stellenbosch, and Swellendam, so stay vigilant in these locations.
Book accommodation early, especially for safaris. Contact us for available discounts.
The Table Mountain cable car in Cape Town closes for annual maintenance at the end of July.
Reserve your whale-watching cruise in advance. The best time to see whales is from July to October, and we recommend the most professional company.
Be cautious at ATMs. Avoid accepting help or paying for parking fees at ATMs. Only withdraw money inside bank branches.
Book popular attractions ahead of time, such as horseback safaris, kayaking, and paragliding.
Consider the Wild Card for nature reserves and gardens. It can be cost-effective for families, especially those with children over 12 years old.
We recommend a private 3-4 hour city tour of Cape Town’s center for a more personalized experience.
Check for national holidays occurring during your visit to plan accordingly.
Expect higher traffic from mid-December to mid-January at reserves and attractions, particularly in Cape Town and along the Garden Route.
In South Africa, an additional driver is included in the car rental price.

Trailer Rentals: For two-way rentals, a trailer can be added for 550 rand per day (as of 2024). Please confirm with us in advance to ensure the vehicle has a tow hook.

Traveling to Neighboring Countries: An entry fee must be paid in advance, and you’ll need a letter permitting the removal of the vehicle from South Africa.
Traffic Violation Reports: The rental company charges 450 rand per report, in addition to the cost of the violation itself (as of 2024).
Credit Card Requirements: You must have a credit card with sufficient available credit. We recommend having two credit cards as a precaution.
Driver’s License: An international driver’s license is required in some countries. However, in South Africa, an Israeli license is acceptable as long as it is in English.
Vehicle Cleaning: While you don’t need to clean the car before returning it, excessive cleaning (e.g., upholstery) will incur a fee. It’s courteous to return the vehicle clean, and checking the car carefully may help you recover any lost items.
Rental Branch Locations: We only work with major rental companies that have branches located in airport terminals across South Africa.
